BIOG:
“THE BEST YOUNG BAND IN SCOTLAND” – The Scotsman //
Jakil originally formed at the age of fourteen and are now only just in their early twenties. Their wide and eclectic musical influences come together to create a stunning super-shiny rock/pop sound that’s winning fans FAST across the globe and turning influential heads across the UK and beyond. Hailing from the Scottish capital, the five-piece have recently picked up sticks and moved their musical career to London. //
Jakil have provided support for the likes of Wheatus, Sandi Thom, Boy Kill Boy, The Twang, Amy Studt and Stanley Odd, playing in some of Scotlands most prestigious music venues such as Glasgow's Royal Concert Hall and O2 ABC. They were once selected as BBC Radio One’s House Band over the Christmas festive period, resulting in national radio play and picked up further airplay across the UK, on stations as far afield as Aberdeen and Penzance. Jakil also launched a free regular newsletter and podcast for fans, became the first unsigned band to digitally ‘covermount’ their music in a deal with a major newspaper (The Scotsman), and have headlined major gigs across Scotland. Jakil have held the title of Radio Forth’s ‘One to Watch’, a competition running throughout Scotland and picked up their gong at the glittering awards ceremony along side the likes of David Gray, Gabrielle and many others. More recently, Jakil returned from London to play at Edinburgh’s HMV Picture House as one of five Scottish bands, selected from over 150, who made this year’s ‘Hog The Stage’ final. The guys are also currently featured on a Political Party Broadcast, performing the classic track “Let’s Work Together”, which is broadcasted on prime-time television on BBC1, BBC2 and STV and has been seen by tens of thousands online. //
After a successful high school tour in the run up to two jam-packed ‘farewell gigs’ at Edinburgh’s Liquid Room and HMV Picture House (Sept 2010), Jakil hope to use the coming months living together in London to build and expand on the hype they have already created in Scotland. //
Jakil have recorded and released three EPs including, “Jakil EP” and “Plan B”. Their most recent, “More or Less”, was released in September 2010 and is currently available on iTunes. The band are confident that this new material is their best and most consistent work to date. //
With interest building by the day throughout the industry and beyond, the future is looking very bright indeed for Scotland’s very own, Jakil. //
